Key Facts: This is issue #16 of Harvey Pekar's long-running autobiographical comic series American Splendor, published in November 1991. It features multiple short, slice-of-life stories written by Pekar and illustrated by a rotating roster of independent and underground artists (including Jim Woodring, Spain Rodriguez, Frank Stack, Robert Crumb, and others). Wraparound cover by Joe Zabel and Gary Dumm. Black and white interiors. Part of the influential independent comic movement of the 1970s–1990s, chronicling the everyday life of a Cleveland file clerk with raw honesty and humor. The series was later adapted into the acclaimed 2003 film starring Paul Giamatti. Many stories from this issue were later reprinted in Best of American Splendor (Random House, 2005).
