• Lead 12-page “Heart of a Vampire” by Elliot Maggin and Mike Grell, from Bernie Wrightson thumbnail layouts. Grell later said Wrightson also plotted it. Bruce and Alfred’s car overheats outside Gotham. They take a boarded-up house for water and find a coffin and an old sunlamp. Vampire Gustav DeCobra, a doctor who believed hearts could be moved, comes out. A stake through the chest does nothing. Batman fights him to listen for a pulse, then hears it in the grandfather clock. A wooden arrow into the clock kills him at dawn.
• 6-page Hawkman backup “Battle of the Backfiring Weapons” by E. Nelson Bridwell and José Luis García-López. Chester McCann, the Man with the Magic Touch from #454, possessed by a 47th-century descendant.
