Originally serialized in black and white in Le Petit Vingtième (1935–1937) and first collected in 1937, the story was redrawn and published in full colour by Casterman in 1943. It follows Tintin as he pursues a stolen sacred Arumbaya fetish statue with a broken ear, involving political intrigue, arms smuggling, and adventures in a fictional South American republic. The album is known for its satire on dictatorship, revolution, and the art market.
